Ah, August.
For some of you, this is back-to-school season. For others, it’s the final stretch of summer. But no matter where you are, it’s the perfect moment to shift into planning mode—especially if you want your side hustle to carry momentum into the fall and beyond.
If you’re just getting started or stuck somewhere in the middle, here’s one tip to help you find your way:
Work backwards from where you want to end up.
Don’t aim for impossible fantasies. Pick a realistic goal for December 31st—something you’d be proud to finish. Then map out what needs to be done month by month, week by week, to get there.
For example:
If you want to sell your first product by November 1st, that means you’ll need a rough version ready by mid-October, a plan in place by September, and validation or pre-sell conversations happening this August.
And remember: It’s okay to hit your goal early. When you do, take it up a notch. That’s how momentum works.
